Clear aligner treatment has become an increasingly popular orthodontic solution for those seeking a more discreet and convenient alternative to traditional braces. If you’re considering aligning your teeth then we hope this shares some insight. If you want to ask someone directly – just ask Dr David, he recently aligned his teeth and changed his lifelong crooked smile for the better!

Initial Consultation and Assessment
The first step in your clear aligner treatment journey is to schedule a consultation. At South West Rocks Dental we’re offering complimentary Orthodontic Consults to help you understand your options before starting down the path. During this appointment, we will discuss your treatment goals, and determine if clear aligners are suitable for you. If you want to proceed, the next step is a comprehensive check up, clean and digital scans, photographs, and x-rays of your teeth and jaws to develop a customized treatment plan.
Treatment Plan and Aligner Fabrication
Once we have determined that you are a good candidate for clear aligners, we will use your digital scans to create a series of customized aligner trays designed to gradually move your teeth into their desired positions. Utilising advanced 3D software, they will map out the entire treatment plan, which may last anywhere from a few months to two years, depending on the complexity of your case.
Wearing Your Aligners
Clear aligners are made from medical-grade plastic and designed to fit snugly over your teeth. You will be instructed to wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours per day, removing them only for eating, drinking anything other than water, and cleaning your teeth. Each set of aligners is worn for one to two weeks before moving on to the next set in the series, which will gradually shift your teeth closer to their ideal positions.
Compliance is crucial to the success of your clear aligners. In the end you're committing time, effort and money - be sure to fit aligners into your routine. I found it was easy to adjust to wearing aligners. It almost felt strange when I finished and didn't need them!

Regular Check-ups
Throughout your treatment, you will have regular check-ups with your dental professional to monitor your progress and ensure that your teeth are moving as planned. These appointments are usually scheduled every 6 to 8 weeks and may include minor adjustments, if necessary, to keep your treatment on track.
Post-treatment Retention
Once you have completed your clear aligner treatment and achieved your desired smile, it is crucial to maintain your results using a retainer. Your dental professional will advise you on the best type of retainer for your needs (either a fixed or removable retainer, or both) and provide instructions on proper care and wear.
Benefits of Clear Aligner Treatment
Clear aligner therapy offers several advantages over traditional braces, including:
- Aesthetics: Clear aligners are virtually invisible, allowing for discreet orthodontic treatment.
- Comfort: Custom-fit to your teeth, clear aligners are typically more comfortable than braces with wires and brackets.
- Convenience: Aligners can be easily removed for eating, drinking, and cleaning, making it simpler to maintain good oral hygiene during treatment.
- Fewer dietary restrictions: Unlike traditional braces, clear aligners allow you to enjoy your favourite foods without worrying about damaging your orthodontic appliances.
In conclusion, clear aligner treatment is an effective and aesthetically pleasing option for patients seeking to straighten their teeth and improve their smiles. With proper care, dedication to wearing your aligners, and regular check-ups, you can expect a smooth journey towards a healthier, more confident smile. We’re proud to offer clear aligners to our South West Rocks and Kempsey Shire patients.
