How quickly can you see me for a dental emergency?
We prioritise dental emergencies and do our best to see you the same day you call. When you ring, let our team know it’s an emergency and describe your symptoms. We’ll assess the urgency and fit you in as soon as possible.
If we can’t see you immediately, we’ll give you advice on managing your symptoms until your appointment. For life-threatening emergencies like severe facial swelling affecting breathing, go straight to hospital emergency.
What should I do if I knock out a tooth?
Time is critical with knocked-out teeth. Pick the tooth up by the crown (not the root), rinse it gently with milk or water, and try to place it back in the socket if you can. If not, keep it in milk or hold it in your cheek and call us immediately.
The best chance of saving a knocked-out tooth is if it’s repositioned within 30 minutes to an hour. Even if you can’t save the tooth, we have other options for replacing it. Get to us as quickly as possible.
What counts as a dental emergency?
Severe toothache that doesn’t respond to pain relief, knocked-out or broken teeth, facial swelling, uncontrolled bleeding, abscesses, and lost fillings or crowns that cause pain all count as dental emergencies. Basically, if you’re in significant pain or have damage that needs urgent attention, call us.
Some situations seem urgent but can wait for a regular appointment, like minor sensitivity or small chips that don’t hurt. When in doubt, call us. We’ll help you decide whether you need to come in straight away or if it can wait.
